Edit custom DC attributes and component tags

Selected

The top part of the window shows the selected component. If more than one component is selected, a list of components is shown. Any changes will apply to the selected component(s) and all its sub-components.

Keep in mind that if the selected component or sub-component has identical component instances elsewhere in the model, these are also updated. If this was not intended you must make these component instances unique by right-clicking the component and select ‘Make unique’

Attribute list

The attribute list shows all custom attributes of the selected component. If multiple components are selected, only attribute names found on all selected components are shown. Also if multiple components are selected, only attribute option-lists options found on all selected components are shown. When an attribute is changed a blue bar is shown next to the attribute, once another field are clicked

Only custom attributes of the dynamic component are shown, if you need other to edit other attributes i.e. ‘LenX’ you must make a custom i.e. ‘bx’ and then refer to ‘Lenx’.

Attributes on sub-components

Under the attribute list, a list of attributes found on all sub-component is shown, if any was found. You must select the sub-component to edit these.

Apply

Only changed attributes with a blue bar next to it, is updated when ‘Apply’ is clicked. The selected component(s) are redrawn and pricing info are re-calculated.

Selected

Material tag list

‘Materials’ show a list of all material tags present in the selected component(s) and all its sub-components. Each tag has a drop-down list of alternative materials that include the tag on the materials attributes.

Apply

When material is changed a blue bar is shown next to the material, once another field are clicked. When apply is clicked all faces with the material tag, within the selected component(s) and all its sub-component, are updated. The selected component(s) are redrawn and pricing info are re-calculated.

Selected components

The lists will include the selected component(s) and all their sub-component(s).

Component list

The Component list will include all components selected and their sub-components with Component type material on their Primary face.

Sheet list sums

The Sheet sums list will include all components selected and their sub-components with Sheet type material on their Primary face.

The list is sorted by sheet material and thickness. Number of estimated full sheets needed is in parentheses (n), based on the waste percent from the the material attributes.

Length is the measurement ALONG direction of the material pattern. If material has no material direction length is the longest measurement.

Sheet list details

The sheets detailed list is the same as the sums list, except each single panel is specified with edgebanding information, and no price information is provided.

Edgeband is identifies as linear material on a none Primary face of a component with Sheet material on the Primary face.

Linear list

The Linear list will include all components selected and their sub-components with Linear type material on their Primary face.

The list also includes edgeband materials. Edgeband is identifies as linear material on a none Primary face of a component with Sheet material on the Primary face.

Copy to clipboard

You can copy the lists to the clipboard and past into a spreadsheet or text editor.

Model

Top level component list with pricing

The model list will all top-level components in the model, regardless of what is selected. Sorted by collection and showing price and cost information.

Face attributes

Face tags – Primary face – Texture orientation

Each face of a component can be assigned attributes. Open the BoxUp Manager and select the face to edit face attributes.

Material tag

The material tag are used by ‘Materials’ to make bulk changes of materials of selected components

Primary face

Material on the primary face of a component is used for price calculations for the component. A component can only one face selected as primary. By default the face with the largest area is selected as ‘Primary face’. If the face selected is secondary the button will show ‘Make primary’

Texture orientation

You can change orientation of texture (i.e. wood grains). BoxUp assumes your saved texture image is up-down direction(vertical).

‘Horizontal’ along X/Y axis – ‘Vertical’ along Z/Y axis – ‘Auto’ along the longest edge of the face.

Select material

Select the material you want to add/edit attributes for. The drop-down list shows all materials saved in the BoxUp material folder. If you want to add a new material, you first must create it in Sketchup, and then save it in the BoxUp materials folder.

The material type ‘Component’ – ‘Sheet’ – ‘Linear’ – ‘None’, determine the type of a component when used on the ‘Primary face‘ of a component. Learn more about how Materials, Tags and Faces work together

Changes are automatically saved.

Attributes for Component material

Only tags can be add for a component material, the tags are used to find alternative materials when materials are changed in ‘Materials’. Cost are managed in ‘Component cost list’

 Attributes for Sheet material

Sheet material are supplies as sheets; MDF, particleboards, laminated wood sheets, glass, plastics, foam, cardboard…

Supplier name is for information use only.

Sheet dimension is common sheet size supplied. The first measurement must be the length along the directional pattern of the surface. If pattern has no direction it must be the longest.

Check the box if she sheet has directional pattern – this is used in lists to determine length and width order of panels with directional pattern.

Add a line for each thickness the sheet material is available. Description/code is informative only, cost and waste is used by PANELCOST to calculate cost of a component.

Attributes for Linear material

Linear materials are supplied by length; Aluminium profiles, gaskets, edgebanding, wood boards, plastic profiles..

Supplier, Description and Code is informative only.

Enter the length of the material when supplied in units of the model, the cost of the full length.

Leading/trailing material waste is used for materials like edgebanding. Enter 0 no leading/trailing waste should be include in the cost calculation.

Cost and waste is used by to calculate cost of a component.

Excluded material

Select type ‘None’ if you want to be able to change material on a face, but do not want it to be included other BoxUp functions.

Component cost list

Component costs – globally maintained

The Component cost list works together with the DC function COMPONENTCOST.

The list left colon is the Component key as specified by the COMPONENTCOST function, if the key is not found, it will be added and cost set to 0.00. The right colon is cost, keys with 0.00 in cost is shown in gray.

All changes are automatically saved, once you click another box in the form.

The cost list is stored as a CSV file. You can also access it with you spreadsheet editor. The file is located in the Sketchup extension folder MOG_boxup/App/componentcost.csv

Extension preferences

File location

A BoxUp component is identified by where it is saved. You can change the location, default location is in Sketchup user component folder. You can have multiple collection with multible sub-folders.

Behavior

Allow automatic purge model of un-used components –  The SWAPCOMPONENT function in BoxUp makes it easy to swap components. However the definitions of the swapped component will remain in the model file. With automatic purge enabled, all un-used definitions are removed from the model when a component is swapped by BoxUp. This function keep your model file small. NOTE in Sketchup 2017 and previous versions all un-used component definitions is removed, also definitions unrelated to BoxUp.

Apply last used materials to new components – BoxUp keeps track of which material was last used for each material tag. With this function enabled, new components dragged from the component browser, will automatically paint all faces that has a tag, with the last used material for the tag.

Show calculated price/cost information – With this disabled all calculated cost information in BoxUp will be hidden.

Cost calculations

When a sales price is calculated, markup is is added to Materials and Cost (zbu_material – zbu_cost)

The formula for adding markup is: (total materials/cost including any calculated waste) / 1 – (100 – markup percentage). Or if total materials is 120 and markup percentage is 40, sales price will be 200.

Labor cost per minute is used with calculate labor cost (zbu_minute), you can also add a markup to the labor cost, enter 0 if you do not want to include labor cost in your sales price.

Enter the symbol for your currency, BoxUp only handles one currency.
